Infamous DJ Phil Gifford: His Exclusive Definitive Wobble Playlist
Wobble was my favourite ever nightclub, a Birmingham institution that lasted many years and still have a loyal following who still attend the yearly reunion and other small events.
Wobble had the same kind of values as us, they weren't afraid to take risks, they were hedonistic and lived life to the full, acid punks who didn't play by the rules - often they would have house downstairs and techno upstairs, it really was a one off club. And the best part was the residents, with promotor and DJ Phil Gifford often playing the last set and anything could have happen as it got closer to 7am...
Phil Gifford:
"The joy and the gift of opening hours of 10.30-7 gives you a lot of time to span
musical genres. Residents playing the majority of the night with guests normally taking up 90 mins or 2 hours of the near 8 hour marathon weekly for over 10 Years.
The resident DJs played a rollercoaster of styles,Tempos and genres that could take in Breakbeat, Jungle, Hip hop Techno, Disco and the odd 7 inch curveball but mainly house based snacks."
Here’s a definitive playlist that Phil Gifford has put together of some of the less than commercial nature that Wobble was known for..... They invented Daft punk you know! 🙃😉😉
